The Groom and the Arrival of the Bride

Floral arrangement with white tulips.

In the middle of the afternoon, the wedding photographer arrives at the Palácio da Cruz Vermelha in Lisbon. The groom, engaging in pleasant conversation with family and guests as they arrive, does not hide his anticipation for the ceremony and the bride’s arrival. The afternoon is bright, sunny, and pleasantly warm.

Finally, the bride arrives in a beautiful Fiat 600 but has to wait a little, as the officiant, this being the last wedding of a long day’s journey, is slightly delayed. The bride waits stoically, knowing that the groom is right at the entrance of the room, curious to know how he is feeling.

Capturing the Wedding Ceremony

At last, the magnificent library of the Palácio da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos welcomes the beautiful bride, who takes her place next to the impatient man about to become her husband. The wedding photographer, I, starts discreetly scanning the room from the corner of my eye, anticipating all possible locations and angles for a good capture of the ceremony — something that always demands speed, as a civil ceremony allows no room for hesitation or long reflection. It was done, and I believe, done well. I honoured the space and the couple.

Beautiful Couple Photos by the Wedding Photographer

Ana and Carlos, now husband and wife, receive warm hugs from smiling friends and family, as is customary. Outside, on the grand balcony overlooking the Lisbon harbour, where the sun begins to bathe the sorrowful blue of the Tagus River in golden light, the celebration of the union begins. As the light becomes just right, during a short walk along the palace’s stairways, the couple and photographer indulge in the always-renewed pleasure of capturing beautiful photographs of the couple on their gala day, where they are the stars.

Then, well, then come dinner and the party — as every celebration should be: dancing, socialising, and making sure that on this day, love was truly celebrated.
