CAN’T ESCAPE by THE PORTUGAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
I know, since I am the wedding photographer in place and have one of my cameras hanging on my neck and the other one on my left shoulder, with the bag of the lenses on the other, I transform myself into one of those children unable to be quiet because they know everything, everything serves as an object of curiosity and, with that, sometimes they are very annoying to adults with the tendency to have no patience for so much hustle.
That is true, and I have no explanation for that, but at the moment I have reasons to bring one of them to my face, close my left eye, and let the right one sees perfectly into the rectangle, with what the cameras show to the photographer how he can see the world differently, at pieces, I get a frenzy that can, here and there, bother a calm celebrating vicar, while so many things are ready to be picked up by thirsty photographic cameras.
Once in a while, I notice that and I try to send to the wedding photographer a sign, who is already in a mode that seems those people who, through a special ritual, are in some sort of trance and, from there, it is impossible to communicate with them.
Because I know that some priests, this only can be a problem in churches, do not have any patience for restless kids, I become in some sort of panic when I see him stretched out and leaning against the pillar that gives him an excellent point of view, for a beautiful plan of the bride, and as soon as I look away, there he is, squatting down, to see if he can use the edge of the altar cloth to frame the groom, who is little further to the left.
When I am trying to send him a sign to calm down, before the priest does it, here he is in the middle of the guests taking from them the moments and, later, showing them to the newlyweds, after the wedding is completed.
Of course that once, only once, like the curious kids, exhausted the priest’s patience and was admonished to stay there, in that only place, and quiet, because who knows about the matter is he.
Bows the head in sign of respect, yes mister priest I am sorry but is something I can not command and there is so much to photograph and if I do not take it it will be lost forever and they can not be married again, and if I do not bring the photos they say that I am no good for the job and it is not right mister priest that in a day like this, you stop me…
In my head, of course, because out loud it will be an invite to wait outside until the ceremony is over and blow it all up at once. But, that child is stronger than me and a bit here, pretend I am is just peeking over there, changing the lens for out there, and, tiptoe, finding that playful photo that was slipping away and it was a shame to let her go.
However, you know that the wedding photographer has an exaggerated imagination and the priests are very good and patient people and, in the end, everything comes together and the story of that ceremony is fulfilled like all the others. But, if you were a little more patient…
I know, there were a lot of photographs that never had the chance to be, forever, and, as a wedding photographer, that can not be.
I understand.
