A WEDDING CEREMONY, CHAPTER 9, by THE LISBON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
This chapter brings the solemn moment for which all the universal energy worked to make it happen. Before it, a whole series of threads have been woven so that paths have crossed, doubts and certainties have been clarified, desires and aspirations have intertwined so that at a given moment in that place, in a specific point of the universe, Rita and Dylan say yes to each other, a nice lady who works for the government signs this in a book and, again, the universe draws them paths that only it knows where.
The wedding photographer knows this because he’s been around these rituals for a long time, he’s stamped them with modern etching techniques and he knows that they don’t happen by chance, although many chances have been at their origin.
The wedding photographer knows that that moment towards which everything converged by collusion of that universal energy, which many call fate and others a chance, had to happen because he sees it in the eyes of those who look. Those looks that enter into each other and that give them, to the wedding photographer, the photographs that take for granted that it would have to be this way, no matter how many turns the galaxies make around each other, with their stars that illuminate what the eyes can see and with planets where they can be to look at. Of this, I am absolutely certain, and I see it constantly through the viewfinder of my camera.
So, as I’m sure has happened there many times, they are there at the fundamental angle of the path that was on their map. They will say yes to each other under the attentive and emotional gaze of tears that taste of flowers and of an August morning. Attentive, those surrounding the bride and groom, filled with the love they have for each other, content themselves with a restraint that the wedding photographer knows will give them many photographs at the wedding and, if he is attentive, as soon as the yes is confirmed they will also give them bursts of joy more beautiful than all the constellations that have been seen, and photographed, by the universe until today. The wedding photographer knows about them, has brought them with him, and will show them in the next chapter of the wedding that took place where, the tales say, enchanted Moorish women also got married. That’s what they say and the wedding photographer believes it.
