WHAT EVERYONE WISHES for THE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
A few photos from the bride and groom’s photo session at Quinta do Lumarinho, on the evening of the wedding party.
A special place
Day of high hopes. That’s how the wedding photographer sees it, the wedding day. Before I walked through the wedding motions, like a juggler with no stage in the right place, I had a slightly different idea of them than I do despite, also, having been there. It seems that our own experience doesn’t count for much in making an idea of what it will be like for others.
It’s only when you start going to them, not as you go to a cinema or someplace you hang out, but as someone who has the responsibility of taking it, the wedding day, far away in time, that you start to get a completely different read on them. From the moment the groom and bride get down to the hustle and bustle of hairstyling and dressing up you can tell that the wedding photographer is in a special place.
Looks full of love
So special that you notice their countenances, of the bride and groom, their parents and other close relatives, that more than feeling victims of a robber of their moments that he transforms into photographs, I see them with eyes far away, with the certainty that they are going to leave for a walk in life that everyone wants for all the happiness that life will allow them.
No one there will hand me wedding photographs that do not carry within them this desire whether in the form of smiles, looks full of love, words of future longing in the fulfillment of all the hopes that leave with that ceremonial moment where a yes, I accept, seals and transforms what, even if symbolically, two people, eye to eye, swear to each other.
Photos with high hopes
That is what the wedding photographer sees every time he is there at a wedding. Of course, he is not there simply to be a witness, to look at those flanking him and ensure that he has also seen it, also feels it, and then to delight himself with the delicacies that will be at his disposal until its time to leave because the party…has already gone.
That is not his role. He, the wedding photographer, will have to know how to find those desires, and those high hopes and take them into the photos that he is in charge of taking.
It is never a problem because there are many of them and it will be in them as if they were a mirror where it is only possible to see oneself in them after have passed in front of it, and, instead of checking the hairstyle or getting the dress right, it will be possible to see in the faces of each one that everyone, without exception, was looking ahead, to a future far away and hoping, in it, to have fulfilled all the great hopes that the wedding photos were able to show.
This will also be the wedding photographer’s wish.
