Photographs as the Beginning of Wedding Day Memories

A Post-Wedding Photo Session
Setting out for a photo session, already familiar with the location, doesn’t always turn out to be ideal for executing what we envisioned. That’s what happened when I arrived at Praia das Avencas, in Parede, where I had arranged a session with Ana, Rui, and their three children. Two of them were already on the beach, feet in the water, and one still waiting to touch the sand – something he is irreversibly destined to do.
I say this because, knowing this beach like the back of my hand, I only consider it a good setting when the tide is low, as it allows me to choose from endless combinations. Standing, sitting, with the magnificent pools that turn into mirrors of water awaiting vain princesses, with Cascais in the background and its ever-challenging outline to any worthy camera.
This kind of setting inspires the same naturalness and spontaneity that one experiences behind the scenes of a wedding day, during the bride and groom’s preparations. Wedding photographs that begin before the ceremony capture moments of intimacy and anticipation that become truly memorable.
- The beginning of the session should capture the authenticity of the moment, just like during the couple’s preparation.
- The wedding photographer’s experience with natural locations makes a difference in the final result.
- Wedding photographs should be built with natural emotion and meaningful context.
- The beach can be a visual metaphor for beginnings: of the day, the ceremony, and life together.
Photographer’s Adaptation and Connection with the Protagonists
A Family in Their Fullness, Offering Photographs

What happened was high tide, with just that narrow strip of sand where stubborn waves tend to chase photographers not too interested in wetting their feet, with my entire plan erased – as if a rubber in the hand of a dissatisfied illustrator wanting to start over had only left that strip of sand that ends down there, not letting us continue in the direction of Praia da Bafureira, a path favored by many couples for generations.
A bit puzzled on how to solve the situation, and unaware that I had in front of me people who communicate easily, agilely, and naturally with beach sands and breaking waves, I saw it resolve itself when the small suggested seaside walk turned into the most beautiful way of showing bonds, affection, and care among family members. The water bubbles, grains of sand, and sea waves seemed more eager to kiss than they were, and the late afternoon sun wrapping them all knew that everything was genuine. A family in their fullness.
Just like in the preparation of the bride and groom, the initial plan is often replaced by something more real and meaningful. And it’s in this space for improvisation that the richest and most emotional wedding photography images arise.
- Wedding photographs gain more value when they reveal truth rather than mere aesthetics.
- A wedding photographer needs sensitivity to adapt to the unexpected.
- The preparation of the couple, like this family walk, reveals genuine and deep connections.
- Each image should reflect the feeling of the wedding day, not just its appearance.
The Value of Each Image at the End of the Process
The Satisfaction of the Wedding Photographer

I hope the photographs that were given to me can give you a glimpse of what happened, because honestly, the work was entirely theirs. I wish them that this joy and sincerity of affection never fade, and may it grow, too, with the one who is almost arriving. The wedding photographer, of course, loved it.
Each image, each click, is a chapter in the story lived that day. Whether on a beach, in a hotel room, or at the wedding ceremony venue, the most important thing is to capture the invisible emotion. The final album becomes a testament to the connection between the bride, the groom, and everyone who shared the moment.
- The wedding photographer is the guardian of emotions and memories.
- Spontaneous photographs have the power to transport us back to the wedding day.
- The connection between groom, bride, and family creates truly impactful images.
- Wedding photography is more than a record – it’s a visual translation of feelings.
