The wedding photojournalist

But first, Margarida’s family, with their joy and warm hospitality, immediately made me feel at ease so I could do my work the way I like: photographing the entire wedding day without disturbing anyone, letting the bride and groom enjoy their wedding without being overly aware of my presence. That’s what wedding photojournalism is all about.
For the most important part of the wedding day

From there, we headed to the beautiful Church of St. Vicente in Abrantes, set atop the hill where Margarida joined Luís for the ceremony. The church’s stunning interior, with warm pastel tones and impressive height, was an irresistible scene for this photographer, always in search of ever-better images.
The journey to Quinta das Sentieiras was quick and pleasant. Once again, the setting was perfect. An ideal environment for wedding photography to eternalise, I repeat, the most important day for this couple. It was a joy to be there.
Documentary approach to wedding photography

In wedding photojournalism, the focus is on capturing genuine moments without interrupting the natural flow of the day. Before the ceremony, Margarida’s family welcomed me with such joy that I felt at ease right away, essential to capturing the true emotions of the bride, groom, and wedding guests.
- Light and natural atmosphere, conducive to spontaneity
- The wedding photographer integrated without an intrusive presence
- Family interaction enables genuine expressions
- Pre-ceremony moments captured, including the couple’s preparations
These first moments before the “I do” are rich in emotional wedding photography content. Every detail — a glance, a laugh, a hug — builds the visual narrative of the day.
Wedding ceremony at the Church of St. Vicente in Abrantes

We set off for the imposing Church of St. Vicente, located on top of the hill in Abrantes. This Mannerist temple was originally founded in 1149, rebuilt in 1179 after Moorish attacks, and expanded in 1569 by order of King D. Sebastião, with works completed in 1605 by architect Mateus Fernandes. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1926.
The church’s interior, with three naves, coffered ceilings, stone side altars, and 17th-century tiles, provides a unique setting for wedding photography. The warm and pastel tones perfectly match the soft light filtering through the stained-glass windows, helping me capture each expression of the bride, groom, and wedding guests with elegance and depth.
- Historic and cultural monument, ideal for formal ceremonies
- Natural light filtered through stained glass windows
- Mannerist setting with rich architectural details
- Wedding photography enhanced by colour and structural harmony
The solemn and beautiful atmosphere of the Church of St. Vicente offers compositions that elevate the visual record of the wedding, turning each photo into a memorable testimony of this sacred moment.
Outdoor session and reception at Quinta das Sentieiras (Ribatejo, Abrantes)

After the ceremony, we proceeded to Quinta das Sentieiras, an 18th-century estate located in a lush valley, featuring lakes, fountains, garden spaces, and a rustic yet elegant charm. The venue includes rooms for up to 500 guests, a marquee area, its chapel, and a fully equipped kitchen — perfect for extending the wedding day with celebration, fun, and unforgettable moments.
- Lush and historic natural landscape
- Variety of environments: interiors, gardens, chapel
- Excellent for spontaneous guest photography
- Fully equipped for reception, catering, and entertainment
The drive to the estate was short, with idyllic views offering unique opportunities for wedding photography: the bride and groom with guests in sunlight, spontaneous smiles, emotional moments, and dancing. The harmonious blend of nature and architecture allowed me to capture everything from floral details to major moments such as entrances, toasts, and cake cutting.
