A wedding photographer knows from the start that planning doesn’t always guarantee execution. Even with carefully set schedules and stunning locations, variables escape our control. Isabel and Rui’s wedding day was one of those cases. Everything was in place for a perfect end-of-day photo session in the Estoril Casino garden and the nearby beach. The light would be soft, warm, ideal to capture the most intimate moments between bride and groom, but the universe had other plans.
When Plans Fail… Yet Still Succeed
I had arranged to meet the couple late in the day. At that coastal spot, the sun is usually generous. It’s as if the sun, my partner in so many wedding photographs, decides to reward me at dusk for the times when it was too harsh, too strong, or off-angle. This was the right moment. Until… traffic joined the story.
The groom, coming from afar, got stuck in late-day traffic and only arrived when the sun was already setting behind Cascais. The perfect scene I had envisioned seemed to vanish. But facing challenges is part of what makes being a wedding photographer so rewarding.
