The Dilemma of Colors in Wedding Photography

When I began my career as a photographer many years ago, I never imagined I would become a professional photographer, let alone a wedding photographer. My connection to photography began with black and white, a technique I used as often as possible over time. I even have an old article that narrates exactly how it all started and how black and white photography has remained a passion in my life.
However, as photography became my profession and I started working with clients, black and white gradually stopped being my primary choice. I began working more with color, as it was what clients were looking for and what was trending in the market. Over time, black and white faded from my deliveries, and even during wedding sessions, it ceased to be a usual option.
The Change in Wedding Photography

The change occurred when, unexpectedly, I entered the world of weddings. It was almost by accident that I began photographing weddings, but something about it captivated me, and over the years, wedding photography became a significant part of my life and work. Suddenly, black and white photography resurfaced naturally in wedding photos, even without me having planned it.
As a wedding photographer, my sessions began to take on a unique and personal touch, leading me to explore black and white photography more deeply. Black and white has a unique ability to capture emotion, simplicity, and intensity, which became a defining feature in the photographs I take for couples, especially on their wedding day.
The New Path of the Wedding Photographer

Over time, something shifted within me. A wedding photographer needs new challenges, and so I began to rethink how I want to present my photos to clients. My work began to resemble a beautiful tree with imaginary black-and-white fruits, with occasional splashes of color—something I’ve always loved, but it was time to take a firmer step toward innovation and creativity.
From now on, the approach will be different. I will completely separate the two options—black and white photography and color photography. Couples, when choosing their wedding photographer, will now have the freedom to decide how they want to remember their special day: in black and white or in color. This separation aims to give each style more depth and the possibility of deeper creative exploration.
How Does the Choice Between Color and Black and White Work in Wedding Photography?
- The wedding photographer, despite starting with black and white, has always been influenced by the demand for color images, which are more common in the wedding market.
- When I started photographing weddings, black and white photography became predominant due to its timeless and classic feel.
- However, over the years, there was a need for change. To maintain creativity and improve the delivery of the images, I decided it was necessary to clearly separate the options: either black and white or color photography.
- The choice between these two options will be made by the couple, based on the style that represents them the most and what they want for their wedding album.
The Impact of This Choice on Wedding Photography
The ability to choose between color and black and white in wedding photography allows couples to feel freer to express their personality and style. For some, black and white evokes a sense of nostalgia and timelessness, while for others, color brings unique and vibrant energy. The wedding photographer is, therefore, an important partner in this decision-making process, guiding the couple to the choice that best fits their vision for their wedding day.
Conclusion:
With this new approach, I want to continue offering my clients the best possible experience, providing greater creative freedom in how their wedding photographs are delivered. What matters most is that couples take home not just images, but memories that are truly authentic and personalized to their taste.
