Creating a Bride on Her Wedding Day: The Art of the Wedding Photographer

The bride puts on earrings.

When it comes to capturing the essence of a wedding, the wedding photographer plays a fundamental role. From the first moments of the bride’s preparation to the final “I do” at the ceremony, their keen and sensitive eye can transform every detail into an everlasting memory.

The wedding day is, without a doubt, one of the most emotional occasions in a woman’s life, and the wedding photographer is there to ensure that every moment is preserved forever.

The Initial Serenity: The Bride’s Preparation Process

Hands, in the mirror, help the bride with her hair.

I think I’ve written here before about the great calm with which the wedding photographer finds brides in the early stages of their preparation, with makeup and hair.

As a wedding photographer, one of the first things that catches my attention is the serenity of the brides during these early moments. Watching, I realize there’s something magical about these preparations.

The makeup and hair, done by professionals, are part of a transformation that goes beyond appearance, reflecting the calm and focus of the bride on this special day.

As the bride is a woman, and as women, we endure this routine of suffering, seen through the eyes of a man, the process of preparing the bride may seem like a real test of patience.

Hair being pulled by the experienced hairstylist, blow dryers warming the environment, and hours of care to ensure the hairstyle is perfect—all of this is part of this unique wedding phase.

And despite any discomfort that may come with these processes, what surprises me is the calm and even joy with which these phases are experienced, especially when in a group and with great celebration.

The Moment of Great Expectation: The Wedding Dress

The bride gets into the car that will take her to the ceremony at Penha Longa Resort.

However, the real transformation occurs when the wedding dress is taken off the hanger and put on, marking the moment of final preparation before the bride is officially a bride.

At this stage, serenity starts to fade, and anxiety takes over. The rush to ensure everything is perfect intensifies: the rings, the bouquet, the shoes, and the touch-ups on the lipstick.

For the wedding photographer, these moments of acceleration and genuine concern from the bride are incredibly valuable.

Things a Wedding Photographer Enjoys

Sitting in the car, the bride tucks in her dress.

The wedding photographer’s role is to observe and capture the essence of these moments. The tension, the anxiety, and of course, the beauty of the final moment when the bride presents herself, ready for the wedding.

At this moment, the wedding photographer doesn’t just take pictures; he tell the bride’s story, her emotions, her worries, and her transformation from woman to bride.

Point by Point: The Bride’s Preparation Process

The wedding photographer divides the bride’s get ready into two distinct parts:

  • Part One: The Initial Serenity
    • Brushing Hair:
      • Pulling hair
      • Twisting hair
      • Warming hair
      • Twisting again
      • Finally, the hairstyle
    • Makeup:
      • Cleansing the skin
      • Spreading creams
      • Applying foundation
      • Matching skin tone
      • Painting the eyes
      • Painting the lips
All of this in the deepest joy, if in a group, a celebration.
  • Part Two: The Rush of Final Preparation
    • Putting on the dress
    • Buttoning the dress
    • Putting on the shoes
    • Placing the veil in the hair
    • Checking everything
    • Finally, the bride is ready to marry

The Role of the Wedding Photographer: Capturing Every Moment

The wedding photographer is attentive to every one of these moments, and with his cameras, ensures that they don’t fade away. Every detail, every expression, every worry, and every smile is captured, creating images that will tell the wedding story and illustrate the wedding album.

The Wedding Photographer’s Awakening: My Experience

When I started my career as a wedding photographer, I was surprised by what I found in the houses where brides were preparing. In my first job, the photos were restricted to only a few moments after the bride was ready, which seemed like a waste.

We weren’t capturing the full story, just the last minutes, as if the film was cut short at “happily ever after.” That’s when I realized that to truly tell the story of the wedding, it was necessary to capture every step of the process, from the first brush of the bride’s hair to her final presentation in the dress.

The Importance of Wedding Photojournalism

At that moment I realized that, for the wedding day to be truly complete, it needed to be photographed naturally, as it was happening, without interference.

This method of capturing the event, which we can call wedding photojournalism, is what I began to adopt.

As a wedding photographer, I respected this method and, from that day on, I started documenting every stage of the wedding without interruption, allowing the moments to unfold naturally.

Conclusion:

Over the years, I realized that to truly photograph the wedding day, it must be captured in its entirety, with authenticity and no restrictions. This is the method I will use to photograph your wedding: capturing every moment, without interfering with what is happening.

The photographs that result from this process show, without filters, the true essence of the wedding day. It’s not just a record of a ceremony; it’s the complete story of a unique and unforgettable moment.

The true story of the day

Let’s talk about how I can capture every moment of your wedding authentically and without interference. I’m looking forward to creating memories that will last a lifetime.
