Happy Cameras of The Wedding Photographer

The groom, in a mirror and among the blurred things in the room, presses the buttons of his shirt as he gets dressed for the wedding.

We live in a world that is constantly changing. Habits are gradually shifting cultures, and people are moving like never before. Nationality is becoming less and less important. More and more, we belong to the world and want to be part of it. So it’s no surprise that a Portuguese man marries a Finnish woman and they live in the Netherlands. Despite the tradition that says the wedding celebration should be held in the bride’s hometown, Maria and Duarte chose Portugal and the beautiful town of Sintra.

On the other hand, I couldn’t help but feel happy to once again photograph a wedding at the Church of São Pedro de Penaferrim, in São Pedro de Sintra. It’s been a place that has given me great photos and happy couples. Although relatively small, it has a certain something that makes my lenses and cameras happy and always eager to work.

Wedding Photos with Great Light

Late afternoon at the well-known Quinta dos Alfinetes was ideal, allowing for beautifully lit photos under the pergolas that abound in the garden, with the ever-iconic Castelo dos Mouros and Palácio da Pena in the background and, further below, the Várzea all the way to the sea.

I tend to enjoy difficulty in my work. Easy doesn’t satisfy me. There’s no joy in it. But I must admit that in settings like these – church and estate – it doesn’t take much to do our job as if everything were perfectly set up for us. And it was.

The Wedding of Maria and Duarte: A Cultural Union in Sintra

The wedding celebration of Maria and Duarte, blending Portuguese and Finnish cultures, found in Sintra the ideal setting for a memorable day. The choice of the Church of São Pedro de Penaferrim for the ceremony and the Quinta dos Alfinetes for the reception provided an environment rich in history, natural beauty, and perfect light for wedding photographs.

The Ceremony: Church of São Pedro de Penaferrim, a Historical Treasure in Sintra

The Church of São Pedro de Penaferrim, located in São Pedro de Sintra, is a remarkable example of Portuguese religious architecture. With origins dating back to the 14th century, this church was rebuilt in the 16th century by order of D. Álvaro de Castro, son of D. João de Castro, Viceroy of India. It features a single nave with a Manueline vaulted ceiling and is adorned with magnificent 18th-century blue and white tiles depicting scenes from the life of Saint Peter.

This historical and artistic atmosphere offers a unique setting for the wedding ceremony, creating an intimate and solemn environment. The natural light that filters through the windows enhances the architectural details and creates ideal conditions for capturing wedding photographs that reflect the emotion of the moment.

The estate’s gardens, with their pergolas and lush vegetation, provide a romantic and welcoming atmosphere for the celebration. The late afternoon light filtering through the trees creates a magical ambiance that is perfect for capturing spontaneous and emotional wedding photographs.
