Photojournalistic Photography

I love this. I’m ready to take a more or less expected photo, and suddenly a new element appears that changes everything, and it becomes something else. That’s the big difference in documentary photography. Capturing without being involved in the event.

  • Spontaneous and non-intrusive approach to photography
  • The unexpected is turned into an image with authenticity
  • Photojournalism respects the natural flow of the wedding
  • Ideal for those looking for a wedding photographer who tells the story truthfully

The photograph became much more… a photograph

The party was in progress, and some marching tunes fit perfectly. A few moments of exchanging places, walking under joined hands to make an arch – but without balloons – and suddenly: “Hey, what are you doing? Can I join too?” It’s fun.

Once again, knowing it could be ephemeral, very ephemeral, gives that tingle at the fingertips – wait, wait, wait… now. And it happened. The little girl looks at the groom, her finger points to something we don’t know, and the photograph becomes much more… a photograph.

I know it doesn’t always happen, but my curious eyes are always ready to tell the wedding photographer they belong to that it’s the moment, and… when it is, it is.

  • Unexpected moments become memorable images
  • Reaction and intuition are essential on the wedding day
  • Capturing spontaneous gestures and looks from wedding guests is an art
  • Emotional connection makes each wedding photograph unique

The unexpected in wedding photography

It’s just a small description of a moment during the party where everyone is dancing… and others are just watching. However, the important part of this short story is in what the wedding photographer is always waiting for: the moment.

Throughout the entire wedding day, moments happen that are worthy of photographs and have a strange characteristic for those who like to do things right, with everything well framed and all elements in the right place – the composition. Those moments are quick and don’t give time to think.

It’s necessary to act fast, turning them instantly into wedding photographs or, if the photographer, through experience, feels that the moment will wait a little for a better composition, then he should do it, with the risk of missing it.

  • The party offers surprises only trained eyes can catch
  • Wedding photography requires speed and sensitivity
  • Composition and instinct work together to capture the moment
  • The best wedding photographers know where and when to act

The satisfaction of the wedding photographer

This constant challenge between the moments and the photographer at weddings is well known among peers and discussed in the many forums across the internet. It seems that photographers only want to go to weddings because of them. Of course, they make a living from photography, and there are many other things in weddings besides those moments – but they are, without a doubt, the greatest challenge.

I usually say that the moments at weddings are found in between the mandatory things to be captured. That sharpens curiosity, teaches you to see from the corners of your eyes and to point the lens for fractions of a second, capture one, and return to the main storyline of the day, depending on the wedding’s stage.

  • The best moments are found between the key events of the wedding ceremony
  • Observing and reacting define the work of an experienced photographer
  • Wedding photographers live for these small, great moments
  • The passion for wedding photography is in telling authentic stories

Note: This wedding took place at Quinta da Cheinha, in Pinhel (Guarda) – a charming venue that offers unique settings for emotional and natural photographs.
